i let my mom write a post for me…

hey guys! some of you might remember this post, where i gave my brother the computer and let him write whatever he wanted. *sigh* i seriously regret that… but i think my mom would be less…cruel. so without further ado, my mom is taking over from here!

Hello Rutvi’s blogging world! Here I am, a computer professional, with not a blog to my name, writing on my daughter’s blog instead – huh. Should I be proud? Yes, I sure am :-).

So, now what? I can maybe, tell you about some interesting facts about her:

  • When she was little, the one song that could calm her down anytime, sung over and over was ‘London Bridge is falling down…’
  • She loved and wanted to do everything her older brother did, that’s how she found her self lost in the wonderful world of Kumon 😛
  • She is really ‘punny’ all the time.
  • Is this a teenage thing? Wanting to wear oversized sweatshirts, mostly stolen from her brother?
  • Rutvi can eat sweets and desserts for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  • She has blossomed into an awesome gymnast. Love to watch her
  • She is also a brat and an annoying teenager at times.
  • She has a way with words – I am amazed by everything she writes, from the little notes and cards, to the stories that have turned into books – where does she get that from? How can she write so well?
  • She is so organized with her thoughts and yet so disorganized.

She never ceases to amaze all of us, she is so creative. Keep amazing us, keep amazing the world with your smarts & talent. Make us proud, be proud of who you are.

aw, thank you mom! ❤ i love you 🙂

i like your post a lot better than fatty’s.

happy thanksgiving, everyone! i’m thankful for my whole family, but also for the best-friend relationship i have with my mom. ❤

book review: everything, everything

yes, i am aware that this book is not new, but i have so many mixed thoughts about it that i kind of had to write a review.  it took me a really long time to get around to reading this, and thankfully no one spoiled it for me. ok! into the review.

first of all, the cover. it’s. freaking. gorgeous. 10/10 on the cover design.

the author: i love nicola yoon. she also wrote the sun is also a star, which is an amazing book. i don’t think i’ll ever get tired of it.

summary: madeline is allergic to the world. but when olly- the mysterious boy who wears nothing but black- moves in next door, her world changes forever. everything everything is a book of madeline’s firsts in life, and is about how love changes everything.

***warning: this review contains spoilers.***

things i liked:

  • i loved the little drawings and charts that were in the book. it made me feel like i was actually reading madeline’s journal or something.
  • the way madeline’s feelings and thoughts were described. it was just so phenomenal, and the author did a great job of making me, as the reader, feel as if the scene was unfolding right in front of me.
  • madeline’s personality. she’s been sick her whole life, but i love that she doesn’t feel sorry for herself or is depressed because of her sickness. i also liked that she didn’t immediately kiss olly or become his girlfriend, because how cliché would that be? falling in love with the first boy you meet?
  • carla, the nurse. she gave madeline and olly a chance. she truly understood madeline, possibly even better than madeline’s own mother.

things i didn’t like:

  • madeline’s mom.

while i was reading the book, i didn’t think much of her, i thought she was just a sweet mom afraid of hurting her child. but by the end, i really didn’t like her. she’d lied to madeline her whole life. she gave excuses for it, but honestly, i feel like nothing could justify that. she basically robbed madeline of every life experience she could have had. and here’s something i didn’t understand. after madeline runs outside to rescue olly, her mom throws her clothes away.  “i had to trash your clothes. and we should be extra careful the next few days…” she says. why would she do that? if madeline didn’t have SCID the entire time, what could have possibly happened within the minute that she was outside? what is her mom protecting her from? it doesn’t make sense. telling your daughter she has a disease when she truly doesn’t is really…low. i’m sorry, but it is. that doesn’t count as “protecting” her. not to mention that it’s dangerous. if madeline’s mom gave her medicine or things that she didn’t actually need, what could happen to her? what if madeline had actually ordered pills to keep her disease at bay? and if she’d taken them? it could seriously screw something up. i wasn’t okay with the fact that her mom made up the fact that madeline had SCID, and that half of her life went to waste because of it.

however, i do think that the plot twist at the end of the book was necessary. without it, the plot would be like any classic falling-in-love story. ”

i rate this book an 8/10 stars. i would definitely read it again, and the story was amazing and heartachingly cute. ( is that a thing?? 😛 )  the only reason it lost 2 points is because i can’t believe that madeline’s mom would lie to her daughter. i did have high expectations for this book, and it met them. 🙂

i really hope nicola yoon writes more books, and i would recommend everything, everything. even if romance isn’t your favorite genre, i think it’s from an interesting perspective and that it’s definitely one of those books that you just can’t miss out on.

have you read everything/everything? what did you think of it?

one last thing! something that nicola yoon mentioned in the sun is also a star was super powerful and also a key concept in this book.

“one thing is certain: love always changes everything.”

i think it’s completely true and a beautiful way of explaining both of nicola yoon’s books.

rip it or ship it??

hey everyone! i’ve been seeing this tag around the blogosphere lately, and while i haven’t been tagged, it looked so fun and i still wanted to do it.

explanation: i put 10 girl character’s names in a cup and 10 boy character’s names in another cup. i then picked one from each and decided if they’d make a cute couple or not.

  1. natasha kingsley (the sun is also a star by nicola yoon) and august pullman (wonder by r.j. palacio)

hmm….let’s forget the age difference for a second….

ugh, this is tough. it’s hard to judge natasha’s personality because there’s two of them: her before she meets daniel, and her after she meets daniel.

ok, that’s still a no. natasha loves science, and while Auggie is pretty good at school, i just can’t see them together. their personalities and lives are too different. i feel like natasha would maybe make better friends with auggie, and that natasha would pity auggie more than actually like him.

i rip this ship.

2. hermione (harry potter series by j.k. rowling) and augustus waters (the fault in        our stars by john green)

hmmmm, yeah, i ship it! i feel like hermione is a tough character to get into a romantic relationship with, but augustus could definitely manage to attract her and charm her. they’d actually be so cute together- they’d care about each other a lot. and guys i know this is weird, but THEIR KIDS WOULD BE SO CUTE.

3.   luna lovegood(harry potter series by j.k. rowling) and ponyboy curtis (the outsiders by s.e. hinton)

i feel like luna would either want to be in a relationship with someone exactly like her- eccentric, brave, and a complete angel- or someone who’s a polar opposite of her- someone who doesn’t really stand out from the crowd.

i ship it, because ponyboy’s portrayed as someone who cares a lot about the people he loves, and he and luna are different enough to balance each other out.

4. neville longbottom (harry potter series by j.k. rowling) and jill charron (with malice by eileen cook)

nah. it’s not that they wouldn’t make each other happy or anything, or that they’d be gross as a couple, but them in a relationship is just kind of…blah. also, jill doesn’t care that much for boys, and neville…well…he’s not the most attractive or popular among the ladies, so i really don’t think he would manage to get someone like jill to date him.

i rip this ship.

5. annabeth (percy jackson series by rick riordan) and nico landini (with malice by eileen cook)

no. even if nico somehow managed to attract annabeth, they for sure wouldn’t stay together for long, because annabeth is so smart and talented, and nico is such a selfish jerk. quite honestly, nico’s a dirtbag and doesn’t deserve any girl in the y.a. fiction world

i rip this ship.

6. cassie sullivan( the fifth wave) and daniel bae (the sun is also a star by nicola yoon)

i put off writing this one because i honestly didn’t know how to feel about it. cassie is super loving and nice and everything, but she doesn’t seem interesting enough to be daniel’s girlfriend. daniel likes poetry and is kind of a hopeless romantic, and i think it would be hard for him and cassie to be together, especially during the fifth wave.

buuut. they would make a pretty attractive couple.

i honestly don’t know. how about you guys decide? tell me in the comments…

truth be told, i never was yours it’s very hard to ship the characters from the sun is also a star with anyone but each other. they’re a huge part of each other’s lives and have such an impact on each other, that when you take one person away from the other and try to put them with someone completely different, it’s tough to know how you feel about it. daniel is a big part of natasha and natasha is an even bigger part of daniel. without each other, their lives are less interesting and kind of hard to fuse with someone else’s. does that make sense? idk.

7. monica (the fault in our stars by john green) and ren (love and gelato by jenna evans welch)

noooo. monica dumped isaac because he was going blind. like what??? she doesn’t deserve someone committed and sweet as ren. they would nottt be good together. monica was kind of a brat…

i rip this ship!

8. anne shirley (anne of green gables by l.m. montgomery) and ron weasley (harry potter series by j.k. rowling)

awwww, two redheads! that alone- and the fact that they’re both sweet characters- is enough to make me ship them.  anne is super nice and smart and enjoys life, and ron was raised by a good family and is super funny and loyal. their families would get along well, and they’d be a positive influence on each other. they’d just be so cute together, and THEIR CHILDREN WOULD BE THE CUTEST LITTLE REDHEADS! (just kidding, i’m not sure if that’s how genetics works. is it? it probably is. whatever.) ron should just never let anne cook for him, because….we know how that went.

i ship it!

9. bronwyn (one of us is lying by karen m. mcmanus) and leo valdez (percy jackson series by rick riordan)

bronwyn is a smart and strong girl, and leo is…a goofball. opposites may attract, but meh, i just can’t see these two together. bronwyn’s very focused and knows what she wants in life, and i feel like a boyfriend who has a dragon named festus is not one of them.

i rip this ship.

10. charlotte holmes (a study in charlotte by brittany cavallaro) and olly (everything, everything by nicola yoon)

olly’s family story is not the happiest, so i feel like charlotte could help him realize that what his dad does is wrong and he shouldn’t be used to that. charlotte is super determined and is one of those people that seems tough, but is sensitive when you get to know them. olly is the same way, and if they were a couple they’d definitely be a good match. they’d probably argue a lot, but in a cute way.

i ship it!

i tag:

may @ forever and everly

arunima @ dreamer’s dreams

tabi bear @ busy bee

let’s talk! do you agree with my ships? or should they be ripped?

p.s. someone count the number of times i used the word cute in this post. XD

maple mornings

woke up to flames scattered around the backyard.

ankles deep in crinkled beauty

ombre of
reds and golds

morning light makes the simplest of things look beautiful.
it’s much too early
but it’s worth it
out here,
time has stopped.
 i have to go soon

i go with leaves in my hair and my cheeks reddened from the cold

and memories of this maple morning.

the 4 types of people in your gym class

ah, gym class. there’s nothing teens hate more than middle school gym class. but…what about the people in that class? no, i’m not talking about your friends. these are the types of people you spend the worst part of your day with:

you know this one- we all know this person. (it’s usually a guy)  this person treats gym class like it’s the olympics. they throw the ball too hard, are obnoxiously fast, and get mad when someone doesn’t understand sports. (aka me….)

them: so yeah, all you have to do is dribble the ball, do a fake out, run this way, pass the ball to me -BUT ONLY IF I’M OPEN! and then do a triple axel, make a backwards pass, perform an acrobatic skill, and dunk the ball into the net. pretty easy, right?

me: uhhh…..no.

them: ughhhhhhh! *rolls eyes and explains process again*

me: *still doesn’t understand*

you either a) are this person or b) can’t stand this person. theeeese are the people that opt out of gym whenever they can, and then who spend the entire period talking. i really don’t have an explanation for this person…other than ALL THEY DO IS TALK.

this is the kid that’s always hurt. he/she might be injured because they are also the athlete (see above) and SPRINT THE MILE, and then pass out.

or, it could just be the person that always trips or gets hit in the head in dodgeball (that’s me. all the time. i’m not even kidding. my head still hurts from monday- a kid chucked a basketball at the net and it bounced off and hit me in the forehead. ouch.)

almost 100% of the time, this person is a girl. this girl thinks school is a fashion show. the entire locker room smells like her perfume, and she’s always blocking the mirror because she HAS to “fix herself” before she looks acceptable enough to go into the gym, which is something VERY ANNOYING for those of us who just want to wash our hands and leave. she also takes approximately 2 hours to change from her outfit into her gym uniform, which is something that is, quite honestly, admirable.

a couple more that i don’t have explanations for: the idiot, the whiner, the loud one, and the clueless.

i hope this was relatable, and be sure to tell me if i missed any!

happy halloween!

hello, hello! yes, i am aware that i’ve been posting every day for the last 4 days, but i promise that’s not going to be a regular thing.

today is halloween (duh) and i thought you might like to see my costume…

i was a mermaid! ( my mermaid makeup had kinda worn off by the time i took that selfie so you can’t really see it but it looked cool. XD)
ALSO IT WAS REALLY FREAKING COLD WHERE I LIVE. my toes are frozen. my hands have lost feeling. my friend and i actually took hot chocolate in a travel mug and drank it as we trick-or-treated… 😛
(yes, i’m a bit old for trick-or treating, no, i don’t care…)
also, thanks for all the über-sweet comments on my face reveal- you guys are the best. xo
not bad for a day’s work!

what were you for halloween?
p.s. i’ve got to stop being lazy and categorizing all my posts as ‘random’. XD
